Why is this iceberg green?
Scientists think jade icebergs form when seawater laden with fragments of organic material freezes onto the bottom edge of an ice shelf. Because this marine ice forms under high pressure, it lacks the tiny air bubbles that reflect light and cause most icebergs to appear white or blue. When the ice shelf breaks up, small bergs capsize, revealing their green underbellies.
